Your Markham and Greater Toronto Orthodontist Attends Joint Specialties Conference

With growing numbers of adults in Markham and Toronto seeking braces and Invisalign, it is becoming increasingly important for orthodontists to be aware of and know how to treat this segment of the population. Gum recession, tooth sensitivity, root resorption, impacted canines, as well as aesthetic dental care such as crowns, implants, and veneers may require care by multiple specialists. Treatment may include care by periodontists (gums and bone support), endodontists (root canals), prosthodontists (crowns and veneers), oral surgeons (extractions), and/or your general dentist.

Dr. Tam recently flew from Toronto to Orlando to attend the "Two Specialties: One Goal" conference held by the American Association of Orthodontists, and American Academy of Periodontists. Topics included treatment of impacted canines, Invisalign for adults and teens, braces to create favourable bone and gum levels for implants, the safety of interproximal reduction (grinding of enamel between teeth to alleviate crowding), and many more.

This meeting was an excellent opportunity reinforce the mindset of interdisciplinary dental care. In such a framework, it is not good enough to simply refer patients to other specialists. It requires open communication, teamwork, and some knowledge of other aspects of dental care other than orthodontics. Dr. Tam works closely with many dentists and specialists in Markham and Toronto during your care with Invisalign or braces. This ensures that you receive the most ideal care possible to help you achieve healthy and highly aesthetic results.

Obviously a trip to Orlando would not be complete without enjoying some of the many tourist attractions. Fortunately, Dr. Tam and his wife, Amelia, did manage to sneak in a little bit of fun in the warmer Florida weather!
