Toronto Adult Braces Treatment with your Markham Braces and Invisalign Specialist
Your Unionville Orthodontics Team often fields questions from parents, whose kids are currently in treatment, about their own teeth. They have seen the amazing results in their children, but are unsure about whether they can successfully undergo treatment. Common questions are about age and types of appliances.
Age is not the primary concern with tooth movement. What is essential is healthy gums and bones. With these two factors in place, adult orthodontics is generally not an issue. Our office provides aesthetic options such as Invisalign, clear ceramic braces, and iBraces / Incognito (inside braces) for those wishing to have a less conspicuous treatment. Dr. Tam has successfully treated patients in their 60s and 70s! In fact, nearly 40% of the patients at Markham Centre Orthodontics are adults. With an environment suitable for people of all ages, our adult braces patients feel extremely comfortable while at the office.
Here's a video from the American Association of Orthodontists featuring Dr. Larry Wang from Maryland regarding adult orthodontics. Dr. Tam spent time with Dr. Wang, who is originally from Richmond Hill, at the Costa Rica Invisalign Study Club for top Invisalign doctors last year.

Happy 2010 and Brushing Tips from your Markham Braces and Richmond Hill Invisalign Orthodontist
A new decade is upon us and Markham Centre Orthodontics is looking forward to being your continued choice for straight teeth and beautiful smiles in Markham and Richmond Hill!
Let's start off with the year with some helpful tips about brushing:
1. Take time with each individual tooth and pay special attention to the areas where your teeth touch your braces.
2. Remember to angle your brush to cover the tops and bottoms of the braces.
3. Don't forget the inside of your tooth as well as the biting surface.
4. Remember to brush after you eat. Trapped food doesn't look good in braces, but can also cause bad breath and cavities. If you can't brush, make sure you rinse well with water.
5. Keep some of the travel supplies from your new patient care kit with you so that you can clean on the go!
6. Fluoride helps prevent cavities. Use a fluoridated toothpaste and see your dentist for fluoride treatment if necessary.
7. Use your proxibrush to clean between the braces and under your wire. A regular brush can't get under there :(.
8. Floss regularly to keep your gums healthy. Use a floss threader or superfloss if you have trouble putting your regular floss under the wire.
9. Even though you keep your teeth clean on a daily basis, don't forget the visits to the dentist to take care of the areas under the gums.
If you have any questions about brushing, be sure to ask us at your next visit :).
